Color

This article was interesting, because color is one of those things that I like when it is done well, but I don't like when it is not, although I couldn't tell you why. I see so many advertisements, projects, and things at work that are done horribly because of the color scheme used. Visual rhetoric is just as argumentative as text when it is done right, but can be just as detrimental when done wrong. For example, if I see any neon on a webpage, advertisement, anything really, I automatically trash it or close the webpage. I hate neon.

Another place I often see awful color schemes is on powerpoint presentations. There are pre-made templates for a reason. Use them! Don't let your powerpoint look like this:

I realize this was a bit of a rant, but I am really looking forward to the facilitation on color. It is something that we use and look at every day, but (at least for me) don't really understand.

  1. I totally agree with your assessment. Whenever advertisements posters, power-points, and etc. are distracting - I too look away. This was especially relevant at a conference that I presented at. Some other presenters used power-points that were really "busy" with animation and colors. It was totally distracting, and it took away from the importance of their message.

    1. I love that you hate neon, Dana. I am with you!

And I agree that color is something we ignore or just take for granted most times. It's interesting when you think not only how it distracts or draws us in, but also the multitude of associations there are with different colors.
